When one thinks of Connecticut, its music scene doesn't usually come to mind. But, when musicians and fans come together, that all changes. Just look at some of the bands that have come from the streets of Connecticut. There are killer bands from every end of the rock spectrum, from the progressive roots of Fates Warning and Soundscape to the hardcore sounds of Hatebreed and Vitamin F, and from the melodic, hard-hitting power metal of Weapon X and X Factor X to the punk tendancies of Indirect 7 and Ransom, not withstanding all of the numerous bands in between that defy catagorization. The fact of the matter is that the bands that play in our very own backyard have more talent than some of the musicians that are topping the charts in today's stale music scene. As much as we'd like to see our favorite bands put out THE record that will bring hard rock back into favor, the truth is this just isn't going to happen. Remember 1980-1982? It wasn't the '70s rock gords KISS or Aerosmith that brought rock back after the disco and punk movements. It was NEW blood that did it -- Ratt, Mötley Crüe, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard... When these bands hit, it enabled bands like KISS and Aerosmith to get their second wind and become popular again. The point comes down to this... support NEW, independent, and local hard rock bands. For hard rock to rise again, this is the most important thing you can do. Create a buzz around these bands who are really struggling to get it going on. E-mail: adam@ctrock.cjb.net AIM:
